Google Photoscan

Has anybody tried this yet? I just read about it in my Now feed...the concept sounds interesting at least. Use your phone's camera to "scan" printed photographs to digital images (and then can be backed up to Google Photos).

I've downloaded it to give it a go, once I find some actual photographs lying around.

I just read the description in the Play Store, and may have to give this a try. I have an all-in-one printer scanner fax that I use to scan old photos to make them digital. This sounds like it might be easier and has Google's auto image enhancements built in to help the old pics look sharper. [emoji106]

It's an interesting concept, works very much like CamScanner mentioned above, I tried it on a picture I had in my wallet, meh, but I'm sure it will be improved with time, and I'll definitely use it at some point.
Get it, it's free and easy to use.

I tagged my dad when I shared this video on Facebook, because I know he's got boxes and boxes of physical pictures.

Here's Google's own Nat & Lo, explaining some of what goes on in the background.

Based on the shots in the video, it does a pretty dang good job, but I haven't actually tried it myself.

The video I watched on the app showed how it got rid of the glare etc, it's didn't work great, but I'm sure I need to play with it more to get things rolling.

I finally gave it a try and it seemed to work well. It was a newer printed image that I scanned...just a picture off of my one-a-day desk calendar.

And I kinda figured there'd be some third-party apps out there already, but looks like Google is finally joining the party.

What am I missing here. An app that scans photos to a digital format? Isn't that what the camera already does???
But this gets rid of reflected light & such so it looks like a scanned picture instead of a picture taken of a picture. Even does some basic restoring on damaged areas, from what I've seen.

How well does this work if the pictures are beaten up and bent? I just wish I had some lying around to try it on.
I will be trying it out on some of pics I have. When I do I will post some here. Maybe I should do a comparison: pic taken with camera to pic using the PhotoScan app.

Here is a pic I took; first one with camera, second with PhotoScan.

To my eyes, the second one is much better.

Guess it comes down to personal preference, really.

It does appear to have lessen the severity of the drinks some.

Thanks for sharing, Tis!
