Google Calendar on Droid ERis

The Eris user manual describes that google calendar on the phone will set reminders and repeating events on the phone. These options aren't on the google calendar on iphone. If both phones are mobile version of the google calendar on the web, how would eris have the option but another phone like iphone not?
