Hmm...Not exactly what I thought. No real SMS support kinda kills it for me.

Assistant is kinda cool. I don't see why it was rolled in to Google Now (RIP) instead. It's all good searching. Only place I really see it being a benefit is if you're chatting about doing something & it surfaces info about it, but again, I still use SMS much more than hangouts or other chat apps.

I'll keep it installed for now, but I'm not seeing myself using this as often as I use Messenger & Hangouts.

I'm thinking this app/service was made more for those in developing countries that have terrible mobile coverage, but access to wifi.

After hangouts I don't really see the point in the others but I'll check it out

Rumor has it, they want Hangouts to be more business-oriented and Allo to be more for general consumers.

I'm not really seeing the point in replacing Hangouts with this at this point, especially if anyone I try to send sms to is just going to get a message to install allo.

It does look like they can reply within the notification without installing it, but seems like a lot of hassle to get other people on board and really use it to its full potential...

Here's the notification my wife got when I tried to text her.

I guess it's kinda fun.

I could see where they're going but its still tedious having so many apps when one does everything needed in one app kind of like twitter and Instagram I mean fb does it all lol

I can see how it'd be useful.

You can @Google in a chat with someone else and get info that you can both see. Weather, movies, etc. Could be nice for planning.

Quick replies are pretty lame so far while the wife and I send messages back and forth, but hopefully that'll learn more as time goes on.

First thing she said to me after we were done playing with it a bit though..."It won't let me set it as my default."

"Yeah. It's a chat app, not an SMS app."

"Bummer."

And she's not as nerdy about these kinds of things as I am, by a long shot.

I don't get it....

\\EDIT\\ I mean, I thought I would get it. I don't. It's like a chat with.... Google Now? Goog... you want me to use this instead of Google Now???

Someone Allo with me???
