Going from Charger to PC

The point is, I don't want to have to unplug the usb cable from my charger so that I can plug it into the computer. I want a charger dedicated for wall charging. A USB cable strictly for connecting my phone to the computer, and a car charger strictly for use in the car (even though I have the dual car+wall charger combo in case I take it on trips). I'll go look for a cable tomorrow since Best Buy didn't have it, and Verizon sells it for 20 bucks.

That's just bad information.

ANY usb cable will be fine so long as it's male usb to micro usb. The thickness is irrelevant. What you need to be concerned with is that it's a 1000mA wall adapter, or it won't work. Many sites sell 500mA wall adapters, and it's not going to allow the phone to charge. Regardless, using a non-OEM cable is NOT going to damage your phone. They all do the same damn thing.

It does not have to be 1000ma. The one that comes with the Droid is 850ma and the Verizon branded travel charger that Verizon recommends for the Droid is 800ma, which works fine.

I haven't seen any generic 800mA cables anywhere. MonoPrice offers 500mA and 1000mA. 1000mA works great.

I bought this one from the Verizon wireless web site when it was on sale for $14.99. This travel charger is recommended for the Droid on the site and is 800ma according to the label on the charger. I've used it twice now and it works fine.

Enter your location

I have no idea how low a rating will work, but 800ma and 850ma work.

the BB Storm uses the same charger, I use the one from my old Storm for home charging. It's rated at 700ma, and works perfectly, doesn't overheat and charges in the normal time.
BTW to answer a previous post, charging through the USB port works OK as long as the computer is on and doesnt go into standby or hibernate. Then all USB power is shut off.

Now, THAT'S just bad information. The phone is designed and well capable of recharging from a PC USB port, and you're not gonna' ever get more than 500Ma from there.

Get the home dock, plug into wall, set Droid into Dock. What in the world are you "dismantling?" Why is this thing so hard for some people to use? RTFM.

Agree.

Culling through all the "issues" posted gets frustrating sometimes to the point I just have to go do something else. There are some issues with the phone at present, and they've been covered, but 75% of the perceived "problems" don't pass the smell test.

i can charge my droid by using the usb cable that came with the droid charger, but several aftermarket cables do not charge the phone, even though the computer recognizes that the droid is attached after mounting is activated.

any idea why some cables allow charging and others don't

(aftermarket USB cables also will not work in charge mode with factory original droid charger even though all connectors are compatible)

I think phone manufacturers are starting to put out cables that their units only work with, for obvious reasons. My last phone, an LG ENV2, would not charge off the USB connected to a computer. I never bought "their" USB cable, either. Could be they are conditioning the voltage or using some other chip in the cable to prevent non-OEM cable usage...which is bunk, IMO.

charging with usb cable

i don't have any other usb micro devices, but do know that i can use the aftermarket cable to mount the phone to a computer to transfer files, so it works at least in this mode. problem seems to be related only to charging function
