Another newbie question. I set up a gmail account which is mandatory when setting the phone up for the first time. Now, what is the use and purpose of this account?? I have @yahoo for my email and I added the app from the market and works great. Do I still need the Gmail account?

The Gmail account links all your purchases in the market and all contacts to the Gmail account.
This is so that when and if you have you get another android phone all of your contacts and market purchases will be available to you.
