Yes this is the official release. Search the other threads, there are instructions on how to upgrade to stock, rooted, odexed, deodexed, etc...
Yes...it should be 111 MB's, you'll have to install it unrooted in stock recovery to use it. You have to be bone stock with no bloatware removed, and if you install it, you won't have root until someone figures out a way to root it. If you want root, go with the two update zip method P3Droid released yesterday instead.

It did not work for me. It aborted my installation. I am still stock with .588. Any idea what to do? Please.:icon_eek:

You tried to install the stock .596 update zip file on the stock .588 Gingerbread leak. You have to be on bone stock 2.2.1 froyo to use that one in stock recovery. I'm pretty sure that's why it aborted. If you SBF back to stock and factory reset it would work.

Thank you for your help. I am still a little bit confused by the instructions on this site. They have the odexed and deodexed, I know what does are but it does not explain how to use the link. I am not trying to be difficult, I am trying to understand this procedure. Please help and once again. Thank you.
If you are on stock .588 still and want to upgrade and not SBF to stock, root your stock .588 build with Gingerbreak 1.2 and install the Droid 2 Bootstrap recovery, then install the deodexed or odexed verison in that link in clockwork recovery. If you want to do it the stock recovery way, you have to be on bone stock 2.2.1 froyo for that update.zip posted earlier to work. Those are pretty much your only options.

Naw man it's pretty easy. You need to just decide whether or not you want to learn to SBF your X to stock, or root your .588 build and install Droid 2 bootstrap recovery. The SBF route is more involved, but you're Droid will be stock fresh like new from the factory after you are finished. It would be much easier to just root .588, install the D2 Bootstrap and in clockwork install the deodexed rooted .596 build in my opinion. SBF'ing to stock makes a lot of people nervous but it's actually really easy.

I did it, and I'm no 1337 haxxor. It's really not as hard or complicated as it sounds. Everything is just a button press - root, clockwork recovery, bootstrap, install. Way easier than going back to stock, and you won't have to factory reset.
