no brick, and if you run a custom rom they generally turn off the OTA updates.

and, fyi, by the time the gingerbread update comes out you'll probably have access to an Ice Cream rom :D

True, but I'd like to see if HTC packs in a few hardware specific patches with whatever OTA they publish.

The devs will likely incorporate any fixes from leaked updates before the OTA hits, so not too much to worry about there.

As an example, the 2.2.2 proprietary components were already in a lot of D1 roms and the ota was a ways off.

True. We're already running roms with .9, stock is .6. I'm not worried about an OTA since most ROMs will be way ahead of the curve.

Exactly, I've been running Gingerbread on my OG Droid for months and months. I imagine once the Thunderbolt gets more Dev support, the same will happen here. As Mustang02 shows - it already is.
