Gingerbread on the D2

Not all the d2g have the ota yet is where I was trying to get. My wifes is bone stock and haven't seen any thing of the ota yet

If I recall, it was a soak test. I'm really not certain beyond that. I just remember some people had the update pushed to them.

Droid 2 Global Gets Gingerbread

Me and a guy I work with also noticed that we didn't get the 2.3 OTA, but another one of us with a D2G did get it. However, I am rooted with z4root, running stock ROM, and have simply renamed all the bloat-apk's to prevent them from loading. Would that prevent my phone from detecting the OTA update? Possible that it was just a soak test, as you say.

The 2.3 OTA update to the OG Droid 2 hasn't come out yet. I don't believe the D2 is getting soak tests yet either. The D2G gets different updates than the OG droid 2, and will more than likely get them first. It will not prevent your phone from detecting or downloading the update, but it will prevent you from installing it.

So when I CAN detect the ota, I should just rename the bloat apks back to default names and I should be able to install? Or do I have to unroot z4 after I do that as well? Thanks for the reply!

Yup, assuming you didn't bootstrap recovery. If you don't know what bootstrap recovery is, then don't worry about it. I'll be posting a D2G gingerbread system dump as soon as someone beams me over the update file for 2.3. Unless someone beats me to it

Yes, or you can remove bootstrap in a few steps.
Delete the app
Go to system/bin and delete the hijack file
Then delete the logwrapper file and rename the logwrapper.bin file to just logwrapper. Reboot, and it should be gone

Interesting. No one ever gold me about that one. I thought maybe that got deleted indirectly or something. Never Seen that before. Good to know tho!

So even if I've just made a nandroid backup through bootstrap recovery and havent flashed a new rom, I still need to either delete those files or sbf back to stock in order to get the OTA?

Yeah. It's probably easiest to do all the removing in terminal, since it's pretty easy to get the hang of. Just gotta remember to mount system I think...

Do you keep your apps and settings and stuff after sbfing? or is it completely back to stock. although i believe all my apps are on my sd card because i moved them all with titanium backup

It will take your phone back to the out of box state, so completely stock. Your google acct will sync contacts and apps (although it's much quicker to restore with titanium backup) Once you sbf, dl and run z4root and then you can restore with titanium.

I assumed you were doing the froyo sbf. If so, then you'll use z4root to root froyo, then flash the rooted gb leak
