Gingerbread on the D2

Well, it works now. Had to go into Animations in Settings. It was already set to on, so I just backed out to the menu. Suddenly the thing was working. It just wanted me to go into the settings for some reason.

I'm honestly floored by how awesome the Moto rom is actually. It's stable, fast~ reliable. I need to get rid of the bloatware, but outside of that... love it. Once Liberty makes a GB'd version of their rom, I'll probably switch since it'll be even cleaner~ but until then I'm good. <3 I actually like some of the blur features. Having the phone dialer in landscape is something themes keep ignoring. The blur camera is WAY, WAY better than AOSP. The AOSP gallery is absolute garbage. People like the Google experience, but it's overrated in a lot of ways.

I totally agree. There is a lot to like about the job they did with this... I have been using since Friday, and have yet to find anything that doesn't work like it should. Battery life seems just as good, if not better than Liberty, interface is nice and clean (and pleasing to the eye no less...), it's fast, stable, and just... good. I kind of missed a lot of the widgets that came with blur, so that is a welcome thing as well.

I just wish there was a way to limit the number of screens without having to install something like Launcher Pro. I only need 3 screens (I like to keep it simple: tuck things into sorted folders on one screen, my news, calendar, and music widgets on another, and then the main home screen almost bare with the exception of a clock and my 4 most-used apps at the bottom). Other than that, I am pretty excited: it's like having a new phone again.

Have we fixed the keyboard light issues, yet? Locking and unlocking wouldn't work for me... I had to reboot the phone, and that was a deal breaker for me. Back on rooted Froyo/Blur for now.

Rebooting fixes the lighted buttons for a short while. I find myself rebooting 4 to 5 times a day just get my keyboard light up. It's very annoying

Keyboard and cap button lights and calendar settings

It looks like almost everything else has been fixed more or less except possibly Swype (which I don't use on my D2). The 3g Hotspot patch seems to have fixed, mostly, the wifi tether and usb tether issues.

But nobody seems to have a clue yet about what to do to keep the keyboard backlight operational or the lights behind the capacitive buttons on the D2. One minor gripe, the sync settings on corp sync (Exchange) only allow syncing back for one month on messages and apparently calendar also is locked into whatever message sync history you set. I liked the "all" setting that kept everything in your phone inbox the same as in your pc and kept all your calendar appts, even several month old ones. If I am missing a setting for this because its been moved please let me know.

Still its a big improvement all in all. My D2 used to either lock up or spontaneously reset several times a week. So far on Gingerbread rooted I have gone five days with a total of zero required or spontaneous resets. It quadrants faster at stock speed than froyo did on the same D2 overclocked to 1.2 gHz.

I have a droid 2 running gingerbread and droid 2 overclock. i am having trouble with it tho. When i get to low battery or below half it get real quirky. like i cannot even call anyone, when i text i can type in the letters but they dont show up. was wondering if anyone out there can tell me what advanced settings to use. cause i cannot figure it out. thanks

- VVM fails to download visual voice mails properly

1) Delete /system/app/Vvm.apk (or rename)
2) Edit /system/build.prop (change ro.HorizontalVVM to false)
3) Goto Market, select Verizon, then download the old VVM

It works. Not as cool as the "GB New" VVM, but it works.

for the love of god please someone tell me how to remove this horrible os from my phone and go back to froyo and liberty 1.5. i installed the rom this morning, ran into nonstop horrible issues like low volume, no outgoing calls and only amazon.mp3 appearing in my app drawer...i can't find solid instructions on how to remove this. someone help please

i can't get to rom manager anymore because my app drawer is basically empty but before when i tried to flash a rom from a zip, the phone just restarted itself. same thing when i tried to go to manual mode.

you did something wrong with the installation.....I have NONE of those issues you have.

If you want to go back just SBF, reroot, and flash away. It isn't hard at all.

Yep, you have to sbf. No other way

yes clearly i did but i don't care enough to even bother to fix it. i was happy with liberty 1.5.

i think i'm good, the links in your sig were very helpful. thanks.

ok problem. i was able to boot into recovery, i tried to restore the backup i made before installing the gingerbread rom and now the phone is stuck on the M logo. i don't have a solid grasp of the terminology (especially sbf and what exactly that entails) and i have no idea what to do now.

yeah your backup's wont work till after you SBF. Follow links in my sig to get the odexed SBF. Then google using RSD to SBF a Droid 2 if that's what you have. It isn't hard really. Turn off phone. Open RSD on your PC. turn on phone and hold "up" key on your keyboard Dpad....RSD should see your phone from there and you just navigate to the SBF file on your machine and click "start"....that is pretty much it.
