Gingerbread on the D2

Well, for what it's worth something went wrong when I did the sbf. I don't know what went wrong because it said passed and OK but I could not get the phone to boot past the M. I tried everything under the sun including 2 more sbf's several wipes of both cache and data. After 4 hours I gave it the last rights. Verizon is sending me a replacement.

But I really did like Gingerbread, the stock version when I had it. I was going to keep it and not do the rooted version but I had a reset on my D2. That never happens. So I thought root it, put in a clean version and lets see. It failed. I've done sbf many times in the past, this was a successful one as well (all 3 were) but in the end I declared it bricked.

I'm not saying anything is wrong with the directions P3Droid gave, I'm also not saying I did anything wrong. I am saying stuff happens from time to time. That's all.

Seth,

I didn't do a restore. I moved the swype files and downloaded the installer from the website. It will not generate a license.

I'm getting massive slowdown/lag anytime i try to skip ahead in a video. The phone essentially slows to a crawl and becomes unusable.

Don't want to make a new thread, since I'm nice like that~ but desperately looking for Swype that works on this version, because the one I have says it won't work with full functionality. So it's not actually swyping~ it's just a keyboard. Fail~ any help? <3

If you find a way, let us all know.

Anyone figured out aa workaround for the bottom lights not turning on? All of a sudden, my home, back, etc touch buttons are not being lit....

Thanks

EDIT: got them back...no clue what I did though.

Steps to get the new Swype:

1) Make sure you have a root file explorer like Root Explorer.
2) Mount /system as R/W
3) Navigate to /system/app and rename Swype.apk to Swype.apk.bak
4) Navigate to /data/dalvik-cache
5) Rename data@app@com.swype.android.insttaller-1.apk@classes.dex to data@app@com.swype.android.insttaller-1.apk@classes.dex.bak
6) Rename system@app@Swype.apk@classes.dex to system@app@Swype.apk@classes.dex.bak
7) ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE WITH "SWYPE" LISTED IN THE NAME IN /data/dalvik-cache AND /system/app
8) Install Swype from Swype | Text Input for Screens
9) Have fun Swyping :)

This worked for me. If you have any issues, let me know and I'll see what I can figure out. Do not touch libSwype.core or your Swype installation will fail.
