Getting Started with the X2

Host File to block Ads*Added 6/3
Here is a host file that will block ads within apps. I have slightly modified this host file so that it doesn't break zynga games and a few others. Adfree blocks nearly everything (which is good), but can break the functionality of some games and apps.
Instructions-Use root explorer, mount the system in R/W and place the file in system/etc *Make a backup of your existing version
Download: link

What does mount the system in R/W mean? What is R/W?

Sorry for my ignorance... :icon_eek:

R/W = Read/Write

For security, the system partition is mounted as Read Only... so you wouldn't be able to make changes without re-mounting it with Write capabilities. To do this, you need root access (God permissions) and an app that can do the re-mount. File Explorer and File Expert are two that can do it.

Loving it.

Rooted the phone.
Then did freeze bloat.
Then V6 supercharge.
Then SD speed increase.

Phone runs perfect for me now.

Not yet but there was a post about someone who seems to be on the right track so I'd say in a month they will prolly get it. But don't hold me to it

Thanks for the info. a couple more questions though?

if i'm on 2.2.2 then isnt that still froyo?
And if so is it just called gingerbreak for the sake of being clever or is it meant to exploit gingerbread (2.3.x)?

Thanks in advance

Yes, 2.2.2 is Froyo... the vulnerability that Gingerbreak exploits was present in 2.2.2 and isn't fixed until 2.3.something... My understanding is that it was originally developed for Gingerbread, specifically, but was expanded to work on a number of vulnerable builds.
