ok, i tried searching the forums but find i don't know the terminology.
What is froyo, sms, etc? my head is spinning.

But, my immediate question is that I'm going to be flying next week and want to download movies so i can watch them on the plane...

i can't figure out how to do that...Please help in SIMPLE directions.
Also, a free way to do it would be great..

thanks.

Froyo is the nickname for Android 2.2
SMS is a text message.

As for movies, you get the movie and then convert it to an mp4 file. All my videos are mp4 now in case i feel like dropping them onto the Droid.

There's also another thread regarding movies and converting for the Droid but i can't find it right now.

Froyo is the newest version of the Android operating system. Like how windows operating system has XP, Vista, and windows 7. Android names their versions after deserts, so they have Doughnut (1.6), Eclair (2.0-2.1), Froyo (Frozon Yogurt, 2.2), Gingerbread (3.0), and rumored Honeycomb.

SMS is a text message, stands for Simple Message Service, MMS is a picture, video, sound message, it stands for Multimedia Message Service.

You can either transfer DVD movies that you have on your computer to your SD card or you can download an app from the market that you can download movies from. I dont know of any but there are some because my brother showed me one before, dont recall the name. Just search the market.

Thank you!

Thanks to all of you wonderful folks! i just got my first movie on my new Droid:icon_ banana:

It really was easy, after all your help. i used DVD catalyst Free which was easy to use and the directions were easy to follow.

I guess i'll be spending a lot of time on this forum trying to understand my new phone!

one more quick question. How many movies (on average) can you hold on the phone? are there larger SD cards for the phone?

Thanks again guys!

Don't take the thread title personally, I didn't create it. Getting started with Android and the forums can be a little intimidating, particularly since we start to speak in an acronym-alphabet-soups kind of way after a while, but hopefully this will help.

You'll be up to speed in no time ;)

While you're getting there, welcome to the forums, and let us know if you have questions or need help.

depends on the movie, probably like from 10-15. You can get a 32 Gig micro SD card if you do run out of memory or just get multiple 16 Gig sd cards and fill them up with movies and just change them out when you wanna watch different ones.
