What does this mean? I saw it in droid 2 overclock. I heard its related to performance? Maybe not...

The linux os using permissions to access files, afaik. It will normally fix force close issues. Rom Manager has this in it, also.

Not sure really, maybe someone else can shed some light on this, or google it.

I don't know much about what fixing permissions does but I wonder how often they need "fixin'" As I understand it, this can help with performance as well as force closes. Should it be a weekly thing or just every so often?

Yeah I tried looking on google but most of the posts regarding it assume you already know what they are. I'm sure if I look a little longer ill find it but I was hoping someone will clarify it here. No big deal, now that I'm rooted, I want to learn as much as I can about my phone. I'm hooked!

Permissions are just rules apllied to files and folders that say who is allowed to view, run, and modify the file. Certain programs will run at different permission levels and will only be able to use the file based upon what permissions it has. Programs will run at a similar level that you the user have unless you grant it root access. Programs at root access will be able to read and modify any file, while normal programs will only be able to read and modify certain files.

Fixing permissions changes what level of rights is required to read or modify a specific file or directory, this could allow or restrict programs from accessing the file that don't have root permissions. I do not know what files get permission changes or if it grants more rights or less to the file, but it'll change them to what the dev thinks they should be at.
