Factory reset problems

I'm trying to do a factory reset by pushing the on/off button and home button at the same time.
I get the little caution triangle and Droid bot icon but when I press 'search' to get the menu, nothing happens and it freexes there. I have to pull battery to resume.

Can anyone help?

You're probably on Gingerbread, so hit both the volume buttons at the same time to bring up the menu. Then use the power button to select (instead of the camera button).
