I also use Skype and you only pay for calling other phone numbers. Calling to another skype user is free. Video and voice, as long as you only call to another computer or app. Skype just fixed the issue with Bionic and other phones so everything should work just fine now. I just video called my wife on her iPod Touch using Skype and worked well. It is much more common than other platforms, so more people should already have it.

If you have some money in your skype account they do not serve up ads. They will start to use ads, but not sure when.

Just use the "Talk" app that's included on your phone... It's the easiest to use, and is a Google app...

You can use skype if you have to call someone that isn't on android, though. I've found that the Google Talk has the best picture on my phone for calling my wife at home.
