Well, today's test was with running NO apps at ALL.
Telephone conversations, some texts, and boom - from 90% to 50% in just about 2 hours.
This is a replacement phone and replacement (brand new) battery.
My 3 biggest needs are talk, email and sms.
It's a shame because I know someone who's grandfathered in an old plan with verizon where they can get email not data or web just email, and it only costs them like $5 a month.
Either way, if I cannot get a full refund from the store I got this from, then I'll have to get something that is rated with amazing battery life, and I dont give a crap about features.
Then I'll sell this toy on ebay.
Well, yesterday morning, I went to the original vendor where I bought it (Costco), but they refused exchange because Verizon had already exchanged it for me, and therefore it was not the original unit.
I found a Verizon store nearby, and they sold me an extended battery (gave me a 25% discount).
Now, the battery is getting VERY good longevity.
Your battery life claims are ridiculous, the droid 3 has the second highest call time of any mainstream smartphone (Second to the atrix at 10.89 hours), it sounds like you are talking on the phone WITH THE SCREEN ON?!? (while playing games, lol) If you truly aren't running a lot of background apps, you have extremely bad luck with defective batteries. I'm glad you were able to become happy with the device with your extended battery. It truly is a fast device, with duel 1 ghz processors (and a couple other cpus for when its in standby, etc) and they do take a toll, if you underclock them using something like setcpu, you can extend your battery life A TON (but you need root), but you won't get the blazing fast lag-free droid 3 experience. You can also customize your CPU clock settings to your battery level to ensure it lasts through the day. But for phone calls to be running down your battery, you must be doing it wrong. Motorola beats everyone in the calling battery life department. I can regularly get 10 hours of talk time out of my droid 3 with the stock battery, with an aftermarket 3500 mAh battery, you can't possibly drain it using it for "office stuff", GPS Navigation will kill your battery fast though. Even with an extended battery. Also as others have said, 3G data kills the battery too, wifi is much more power efficient. 4 vs 8 hours of web browsing from 100% to dead, stock battery. Anandtech has some cool battery life graphs with the droid 3 against other phones in their detailed review here, for things like talk time, wifi browsing, 3g browsing, etc: AnandTech - Motorola Droid 3 Review - Third Time's a CharmWell, today's test was with running NO apps at ALL.
