[Exclusive] Verizon Will Offer Galaxy Gear Outside of a Bundle for $300 Tomorrow

Although the Samsung Galaxy Gear doesn't exactly inspire a huge amount of enthusiasm, it is still a pretty neat tech gadget that has garnered some interest. Up until now, folks on Verizon who wanted to get their hands on one could only order it from VZW as a bundle with the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Starting tomorrow that is about to change. According to some insider info straight from the source, we found out Verizon plans to offer the device separate from the shackles of a Galaxy Note 3 bundle on October 10th.

We even have a link directly to the order page of the device. Even though it likely can't be used yet, you can check it out here: http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/...peId=11111&accessoryId=65906&initialPhoneId=0

Even though it is a bit over-priced at $299.99, the Galaxy Gear can actually function as a smartphone and allows you to make calls which is what differentiates it from previous devices of this kind. Sound off if you think it's even close to being worth the price.

Sitting on the sidelines for now. At some point, someone is going to put Android on a Fitbit-type device (much more svelte and subtle, maybe even with a minimal display) and REALLY hit the bullseye. For me, a smart watch isn't a surrogate screen for my smart phone, but a versatile device that collects biometric data (activity level, sleep patterns, pulse, blood-alcohol level, respiration, maybe even can test air quality, EM fields, and other environmental factors) and then mines those data (go Google, go!) for predictive messages about my health and potential hazards, risks, etc:

"Matt, your body core temperature is 2 degrees above normal for this time of day -- you might be catching a cold."

"Matt, your pulse is 173, you voice is at 80 dB, and your skin conductivity is *some made up number* -- please pull over before you have another road-rage episode."

"Matt, your blood-alcohol level is .15. I'm calling a taxi."

I despise Samsung with a passion, but I have to give them credit for this little promo video for the Galaxy Gear. It hits all the right places of my childhood.

Why would you need it outside of a bundle with the Note 3? That's all it works with and the Note 3 doesn't come out until tomorrow either

Samsung has been working to make it compatible with multiple devices (although for now they have only announced they are working on the SGS3, the SGS4 and the other GNotes). Also, from several reports we have found, there are folks who have figured out workarounds to make it work with other devices. It won't be a GNote3 exclusive forever.

OK, so... I got my Gear Watch, and have successfully installed it with my S4, and it seems to have 100% functionality. I will work on putting together a "how to" for it. Love it!
