Easiest way to get free WiFi tethering?

Alright, so my DIncredible has not received the OTA update yet, and before I see the notification and accept it - I was just wondering what the easiest way to get the free wifi tethering to work. Should I wait for the OTA and then root? Or root now? What differences will there be? Thanks a ton!

I'm not sure about your rooting question, but a free simple app that let's you wi-fi tether for free is Barnacle Wifi Tether & its available in the market

Barnacle and any other wifi tether programs are going to require rooting. No way around it, unfortunately.

Will PDANet work with the Incredible?

It works wonderfully! I've been using PDANet for quite some time now on my Incredible. I live in Las Vegas, NV but work in New York City, so travel back and forth weekly and PDANet has kept me and my laptop knee deep in Internet from day one :) I highly recommend it to anyone using an Incredible. It probably works just as well on other models, but I can only vouch for the Incredible.

PDANet = A+++

I'd like to chime in to the OP when it comes to rooting. If you decide to get the OTA 2.2, then you will not be able to root until a root method has been released for the OTA which as of right now is not the case.

PDANet does work, though can't speak as to whether it works on OTA 2.2. PDANet does however work through USB and not WIFI.

My recommendation is that if you want to have a wireless tether, you root now while you still can, do all the updates on the radio yourself, grab a 2.2 ROM and wait for the OTA to be released by one of the Custom ROM devs and in mean time you can have WIFI Tether and will eventually have it on the OTA, and even better, the OTA without all the extra bloatware.

Using PDANet and it's working fine with OTA, 2.2, Froyo update. :)
