DX not playing sounds for texts

I just got my Droid yesterday, and I've noticed that if the text message app is up and I receive a new text it will not send any notification. It only sends notifications if I got to another screen.

I use google talk, but also noticed it in the regular text message app.

Anyway to fix this? Or at least will froyo address this?

That is normal, if you are in the app at the time of reception, then you won't get a notification.

Is that supposed to change with 2.2, or basically stuck with it? I keep my text screen up often, but am not watching it so it's usually a good 10-20 minutes before I realize I have a text.
