Duplicates of Random Contacts keep returning after being deleted

Love the phone but this is very frustrating. Some contacts are duplicated. When deleted, they appear to be deleted but after a brief time they show back on the list. Some individual contacts have actually trippled and even quadrupled following the first deletion of its duplicate. Is there a setting to fix this or is there a patch to fix it?

Do you have any other accounts syncing to the phone? Like exchange or Facebook?

Facebook is sync'd; however, the contacts that are repeating are not ones that I am "friends" with. Certain names in the contact list keep coming back while a few seem to actually be deleted.

I uninstalled facebook and deleted all duplicates. I them activated backup assitant. Will check later to see if they returned. Checked later and problem still exists.
