Droid use while in Dominican Republic

I am visiting the Dominican Republic next week. I want to take my Droid with me, but do not want to use the data. I plan to only use wifi for the internet.

I assume I will want to put the phone in Airplane mode to avoid data charges. Is that the correct way? Will I be able to use wifi while the phone is in Airplane mode?

Thanks in advance.

Yes and yes as far as I know. You could also turn off data in settings if that doesn't work.

Settings->wireless and networks->mobile data-> disable

Thanks. I'll give that a shot. I don't have the phone on me right now, but if I turn the data off under the settings menu and the phone is turned off then back back on, will it keep the data turned off?

Thanks again

Beware the 5 cents for incoming txts. 1.99 a minute phone calls. And I think it was either 25 or 50 cents for outgoing txts.

If I keep the phone in Airplane mode the entire time, will I avoid any charges for incoming texts/phone calls? I will not be making any calls or sending any text messages while there.

Yes because it shuts off the radio. Your in effect turning off the phone but you can still use it. Does that make sense?

Yes, turn on airplane mode, then turn the wifi on, you'll be all set!
