DROID use off contract

I know this is a ways off, but my Verizon contract on my OG Droid is up in January. The phone's still in great shape, so I don't plan on re-upping with a new device. I've never been off contract, so I'm looking into my options. Any suggestions?

ya you can continue to use the droid without upgrading or renewing your contract.

Are there carriers other than Verizon that I'll be able to use off contract? I know they're supposed to have the best coverage, but I think they charge an arm and a leg, even with the discount I get from work.

You wouldn't be able to use your Droid with another carrier.

That's not entirely true, u can take it into cricket and they will flash it to work on their network (basically verizons network)

Thanks for the feedback. I checked Cricket's website, and they aren't offering contracts in my area. Does anyone have any experience with Boost Mobile? I might look into them as an option.

You can also take just about any Verizon phone to metro PCS and they can flash it to work on their network.

I've been using Pageplus since I bought a used Incredible last summer. Cost is much less than Verizon charges, yet I'm on their network. One downside is no unlimited data plan.

DInc with CyanogenMod 6.1 and Invisiblek #28 kernel.
