DROID Unresponsive to power button - unable to get out of standby

I've run into the same issue, more or less, for the first time in the 3+ weeks I've owned the phone. This never happened up to this point, then I noticed earlier this evening that the phone shut itself down and would not turn on via holding power button down, etc. - a "ghost shut down", if you will. The only way to remedy this was a battery pull. Then, about three hours later (20 minutes ago or so), I noticed the phone was off, again - same situation, tried plugging into charger this time - would not charge - had to fix again with battery pull. Should I be concerned? I am four days from my 30 days since purchase, so I'm not sure whether or not I should bring it back for a replacement...

Can't remember if my phone's shutdown, but I think it has. I've experienced this same issue as well though. As stated, a battery pull fixes the issue, but I've had my Droid since the last week of November and only encountered this issue a few times in the last 2-3 weeks...

Same problem, kinda

I have the same problem in terms of the screen not being responsive. However, for me it does not happen at random times, it only happens when a syncing problem occurs and when the sd runs into some problems while connected to my computer.

Well it just happened again, this time it totally shut off, no response when hitting the power button. This is the 3rd time since Wednesday 2/17. I have had the thing working fine for the past 2.5 weeks and no problems but for some reason this week its doing this consistently.

I removed Advanced Task Killer last nite and today at approx. 3-5pm it shut itself off, so obviously ATK is not the culprit. This is getting rather annoying to have to do a battery pull every time, not to mention my confidence in the droid is losing faith.

Does anyone else use SCREEBL that is currently having the issues of random shutoffs, etc? I know SCREEBL has released an update fairly recently (possibly in the past week or so??) This is the only thing I have running constantly and like I said the phone has been working fine for the past 2.5 weeks or more. Just a shot in the dark...

Happend to my Droid about 3-4 times in the last couple months, most recently last night. I dont have any Task Killer apps or SCREEBLE installed.

Wanted to add that I never charge my Droid via the usb on my computer, I always charge through my dock that is plugged into the wall. Ive probably only plugged it into my comp three times since Ive had it, none of wich were recently.

Is there a way to sort by date for application install or update? This might help to determine what might be causing this problem. I know specifically when it started freezing but cannot recall what I've installed or updated since.

As of today, no activity when hitting the power on button
Locked up. Battery pull. Now get screen with the "slide to unlock". The minute I turn off, and then turn again, I get no unlock screen, just my wallpaper, but am able to access everything via the 'home' button.

Hooked on DROID

Guys, I've never had a problem like ya'll are describing. But if I did, I would do a factory reset and start installing my apps again one at a time. I've seen this kind of issue in posts on different boards and where the issue was solved was almost always with app conflicts or rogue apps. If memory serves, the offenders were often Home replacement apps, virus apps, one or two guys had issues with Task Killers, and a few other scattered apps (don't recall specifics).

Good luck.

I most certainly think its a rogue app or some software that is causing this. The problem is that many of us have experienced no problems for weeks then all of a sudden this issue arises. I also am tired of resetting my phone and having to reinstall everything.

I guess a question I have is why is there no event viewer much like windows has, to give me some idea of what was running at the time of the crash, etc.?

I really like the Droid but I must say, I dont hear my iphone friends saying they slowly add apps to their phones in fear of it freezing up or shutting off.

Come back after the Droid has been around for 2-3 years and you won't hear these sorts of things here either.

Agreed. And I'm not bashing just frustrated. I broke an at&t contract to go Droid.

I got so caught up in being clever that I forgot your comment about a log file. Why in the world isn't there one? Or, is there one and we don't know how to access it. Surely the devs have to be able to see what is happening and when. Anybody?

Just to weigh in again, I charged my phone last night and went all day without having the issue happen again - I do have a task killer running but do not believe that is the problem; the last app I installed before I started having the issues I removed first thing this morning...hoping I can attribute the issue to that, but obviously no way to tell for sure (was a halo widget soundboard)

Just out of curiosity, what would you consider a home replacement app?

I think I have a small Remedy...I installed Auto killer (Root) and it seems to of solved alot of lagging up, non responsive problems set in "agressive" mode.
