Droid on 4G?

I go back to the Cellular One days with the old Motorola Brick Phone :)

I know what you mean. There was once a phone company commercial (forget who) that was out a few years ago. It was a first grade classroom full of kids at their tables coloring. They all had the basic, 16 color crayon set. Then, in comes a new student. The teacher gives the new girl the complete deluxe crayon kit with 100 colors. All the other kids started whining and asking why she got the deluxe kit and their stuck with the basic kits. The teacher replied, "Thats because she's NEW!"

I have stuck it to Dish Network in the past, in order to get better equipment and in on promo deals. I have been a Dish customer continuously since 1999. I would threaten to go to Cable or DirecTV, and they would always cave in eventually. In the end, I get a better rate and a dual tuner DVR for less than I started with :)

Ah yes, the Cellular One days. I remember having a brick phone. Then I upgraded to a mounted car phone. That actually was better, since it had better range, being analog and all.

Hard to imagine the changes in the last 20 years. Or what it will look like in 20 more years.

Still ranting after all these days....

Was the date you referenced for renewal of your Contract date or the date you were eligible for an upgrade? The two are not the same. As I just pointed out.

cuskit

Gee, not sure. It was over a month ago (I think) and I don't remember. I know I paid more for the phone than if I waited for the end of my contract. But, I wanted it, and I wanted it now.- ha.

Well, next time I'm in the neighborhood, I'll stop in and question them on it.

When I first got my old (;)) EnV2, I thought I might like that TV option (whatever that was - it was lousy - I thought). I checked it out on one of the demo phones and found it couldn't do anything I wanted it to do - so I said NOPE, don't want it. Imagine my surprise when I go in a year later to apply the veteran discount thingie and low and behold, I'm subscribed to the TV thing, and have been for the past year! I got off that right then, but the guy said since it was on my bill for SO long, he couldn't give me any money back. Had I noticed right after 'they' applied it, I could have gotten a rebate of some kind. Of course, no one knew how it got on my bill.... :icon_evil:

What I was told

I was told from a rep. Of Verizon Wireless that 4G will just give your phone better speed that all phones will be compatible from at least 2005, she told me that my chocolate 3 Motorola Droid and my old samsung phone will all work for 4G. Good News!

Guys, think of it this way. Those of us on a two year contract will be spared the initial 4G failures, lack of service, and performance issues that are sure to be experienced in the first year of operation. By the time we upgrade, 4G will be up and running just perfectly for us. :) 3G won't be going away in the meantime, and 3G service is doing very well for me so far.

You ninjaed my thoughts! Haha... And if worse comes to worse Ill just dish out some extra cash for some kind of incentive plan that Im sure they will offer.

Incentive plan.

The only 'incentive' plan you'll get is "Pay up, or lose your service"... :)

To handle all that potential bandwidth I am sure some backend upgrades will need to be made as well, which will probably benefit the 3G systems. Also, as the network devices are moved to the 700Mhz spectrum, the service on 1900Mhz (EVDO) should improve. By November of 2011 when most of the DROID's are being replaced there should be some nice bandwidth available for the newer devices, which would have some serious processing power and a very mature Android OS to utilize some new features a available with that bandwidth.
The future is bright for the smartphone. I think the PDA term might come back as well, as these devices are much more than just smartphones.

When Verizon first moves to 4G their coverage will probably be as bad as AT&T's 3G network. In a few years when we are ready to upgrade our Droids the 4G should be built up and ready to go.

i can upgrade my droid in september 2010 so if theres a LTE phone out that i like im sure ill jump on it...

as long as its an android based phone.

actually.... from what i have read on the blogs and whatnot verizon plans to have 80% of there entire network covered by LTE before the end of 2010.

This is one of the reasons I have an extra phone on my plan and allow my son to use it even though I don't really need it on the plan.

Since the renewal times are spaced about 1 year from each other... every year I have one phone renewing and I can upgrade if I want with the discount and pass my phone down as a handme down "which is always pretty nice handme down for someone who is getting a free ride!".... practically pays for the 10 dollars extra a month for the line.

or you can just stay with verizon long enough in good standings to become a VIP with them and you can upgrade all your lines every year at the 2 year price.
