Droid Motorcycle Accessories Question.

I am looking for a simple way to mount my Droid on my bike for long trips. I have a Harley so it needs to be well made for the vibrations. And I need it to be able to either charge or be able to plug a charger into it as 8 to 10 hours of GPS/Music will kill the battery. I am willing to modify anything to make it work. Was just wondering if anyone has something similar?

RAM mount with the medium Aqua Box is what i have, works GREAT, id take pics but the bike is away for the winter.

Very nice, some how I missed this one. Could you post the one you have there are a few different and the medium ones measure bigger than my phone.

I have used a number of RAM mounts on my motorcycle and in my car. I have the medium aquabox (not medium-wide) and the finger-grips. Haven't been out on the bike with either and the droid, yet (too cold), but the droid fits quite well into the aquabox, and it's very sturdy in the finger-grips. I use the finger-grips in the car and it works great.

the medium will measure bigger than the droid, but it comes with foam you can cut to fit to make it a snug install

an attachment for the handlebars of my harley would be great. I would LOVE to use the GPS and feel comfortable enought that my droid is secure..

Just curious how the droid handles the vibration? Every now and then in the car the bumps will screw with the accelerometer and throw the screen back and forth. Does the aqua box stabilize and shock proof the droid?

I ride a HD Street Glide thats why I ask.

i have the aquabox mounted in landscape and if the bump is big enough itll flip to portrait, but i mostly use it for GPS which is connected via bluetooth to my helmet, so i rarely look at the phone, mostly listen

I just did an experiment.

With a magnet polarized to enable Car Mode the screen will rotate from landscape to portrait when the phone's turned.

But with a magnet polarized to enable Docking Mode the screen will not rotate from l to p no matter how much I twist the phone around.

Sure, it's an extra step to exit the Dock screen & hit the Car Home icon, but your screen won't be moving

Now if you'd rather have your GPS in portrait mode you're on your own. :icon_ devil:

It's good to ask if you ride a paint shaker. Personally, and perhaps I'm just overly cautious, but before mounting a Droid on your handlebar I'd look very carefully at the vibration control afforded by the mount you use. It's not the occasional pothole I worry about, it's the effect of constant vibration on the phone. Keep in mind that GPS units designed for motorcycle use are frequently built to take vibration and I doubt seriously that the Droid is.

I ride a Honda Valkyrie that is so smooth that I can balance a nickel on the cylinder head. But I also ride a Moto Guzzi twin that has a lot of "character" (i.e. vibration). While I wouldn't hesitate to mount the droid on the Valk, I wouldn't do so on the Guzzi.

As an aside, I really don't see the point of mounting the Droid on the bike at all. (Again, that's a personal opinion.) Instead, I simply open up the navigation, open my tunes or Pandora, put my droid in my jacket, and run my wonderful Shure earphones up to my ears under my helmet. The droid plays music and the navigation interrupts the music whenever "she" decides to tell me something.

This also has the advantage of keeping my eyes on the road rather than staring down at the Droid screen. Been riding a motorcycle for about 40 years and have long since learned the value of keeping my eyes on the road ahead and the rearview mirror. I don't need still another place to look.

i decided to mount mine also because i web cam from mine using the 'qik' app. i drilled a hole so the camera could see out and re-sealed it with clear lexan.
