Droid making wifi hotspot

I was wandering if there was an app that I could download to give me a feature like the palm pre plus with the mobile hotspot app (ad-hoc) without having to root the device... thanks

Looking for the same. Just got the word on what the new pixi and preplus through verizon will do as hotspots and feel cheeted. I want my droid to be king and if it shares with five more its strength and virility then it will be king..

PDA Net application does not have to have the phone rooted. The standard version is free but restricts you to non-HTTPS sites, while the pro (I forget how much it is) allows you to use the HTTPS sites.

PDAnet is not wifi and only suports 1 computer at a time... its pretty much the anti-wifi tether experience.

the wifi tether for root is pretty good though

I never tried it, but I thought that PDA Net was basically Wifi tether for Root with restrictions. I guess I was wrong. So how does that work then?

pdanet is usb and i belive bluetooth tether. like you said with the restictions on the free version but it requires a "client" to be installed on the computer for it to work

PDAnet has an app for the Droid and for the PC. You need both.
Droid is basically a bridge for internet access.

$30 is for the paid version, but as you already said the free restricts https sites.

Ah ok. I guess if you aren't rooted it's really your only option though.

just root and have a blast, im running bugless beast 7.5 with wifi
and its very cool and smooth, turn on the wifi app and everything in house
can connect to it with no issues,
downloaded new ubuntu 9.10 for my laptop installed it and running now, just clicked on networks and my droid was right there and connected laptop to droid in 2 seconds
forget windows all together im liking linux and android way better
smoother, faster and safer all the way around

Will the basic wireless tether work with multiple connections though? I have Sholes and it works great but I can't test it to see if it actually allows more than one computer to connect to the net at once, anyone test this?
