Droid Eris Track Ball

I have looked to no avail. I am stuck with my phone(Droid Eris) and the trackball is becoming so bad I almost can't use the phone.

Can someone come up with an app that can disable the trackball.. Will need to beable to turn back on though in case of switching ROMS.
