droid contacts show up 5 times

When I go into the contacts screen and hit the picture next to a contact the little box comes up with the options to call or text or view the contact. When I hit call or text it opens another box with the contact phone numbers in it. Well that box has the contact phone number listed 5 times. Why is this? Is there a way to take care of this?

I had a similar problem. Had to log into my gmail account on a computer, and clean it up in the contacts section since i had a few duplicates for everyone.

Yea I actually finally figured that out. Now however all my contacts wont show up on my phone. They are all listed in gmail but when I sync only half of them show up. I've tried selecting every choice in display options but still only half of them show up. And another thing on top of that is when I create a new contact it also will not show up on my phone but it will be in my gmail. This damn phone is beyond frustrating right now.
