#Droid Bionic or HTC Thunderbolt?

Although it is less Ram Which is 512MB DDR2. It is twice as fast and faster then The 768MB RAM of the ThunderBolt.. MicroSD cards have always with Motorola Smartphones. For me I do not care if it has a Kickstand or Not when I have the Docking Station. We do not know if it has an FM Radio or not. The Phone at CES was unfinished. As for the front facing camera we have not seen any video of it.. We have to wait for the finished product.. Other then these things Pretty good Info...

Thanks. I've spent a lot of time researching and comparing these two phones. Yeah, I should have mentioned that the Thunderbolt's RAM is not DDR2, while the Bionic's is DDR2, so that could possibly make up for the 256MB difference between them. So to be clear, what you are saying is that 512MB of DDR2 is like having 1GB of regular? I'm not quite sure how that works. Are you sure all Motorola smartphones come with a MicroSD card? Everything I've read so far indicates that while Bionic will of course have a slot for it, the actual card is not included with the device (costs extra). Kickstand is not a deal-breaker of course, but who wants to carry a dock around with them everywhere? I guarantee there will be times where you wish you had it when you were out somewhere (not at home or the office) and want to watch something or show people something where it would come in handy. Also, everything I have read indicates that the Bionic will not have an FM radio. Of course they could put one in before the production model comes out, but right now it does not. Again, I don't know how big of a deal this is to people, just use Pandora, unless you really like commercials and DJ chatter, or a particular station. The FFC on the Bionic (VGA, like iPhone, which I think is 0.3MP) is lower quality than the Thunderbolt's (1.3MP). Again, not a huge deal, how often will people really use video-calling (with a few exceptions, like people who travel a lot)? This is not speculation, I have pooled these stats from multiple fact-sheets and hands-on reports of the phones.

The Droid X and the Droid came with a 16G MicroSD Card, so I am just assuming that the Bionic will come with a 16G MicroSD. I remember seeing it somewhere...

I'm leaning toward Thunderbolt, while the Bionic will have superior specs I don't think they will translate to noticably superior performance. Classic case of where the hardware exceeds the limits of the software, Gingerbread just isn't designed for the kind of power Bionic will have... Honeycomb maybe, but thats not ready for phones yet and Motorola is always behind with its updates due to Blur. It comes down to Sense vs. Blur for me and this is Sense 2.0, so that sells it for me. By the time the software catches up to the faster memory and dual core processor I'll be getting a new phone anyway.

Just see a small review here: Droid Bionic and HTC Thunderbolt Android 4G Comparison Review | AndroidCity.org

Finally, Verizon and HTC have officially unveiled the THUNDERBOLT at the CES. It’s some of the highlighted features are Mobile Hotspot capability which helps you share 4G connection with up to 8 Wi-Fi devices, wireless chipset designed to allow switching between Verizon’s 3G network and the 4G LTE network and comes with 4G LTE which would give users download speeds of 5 to 12 Mbps and upload speeds of 2 to 5 Mbps.
But there is a strong competitor released to this phone, which comes from the maker Motorola, DROID BIONIC, which lands with 2 processor cores running at 1GHz each (dual-core: Cortex-A9, NVIDIA Tegra 2), a LTE phones for Verizon Wireless’s 4G LTE network with all perks of Adobe Flash and HTML5 combined.
Here is a brief comparison:

There is word out that the Droid X2 might be coming out in May...basically a bionic without 4G, for people like me who aren't going to have 4G coverage for a long time. This looks promising to me, because I don't want to buy a 4G phone and possibly pay a fee just for being 4G capable, like people with an EVO do. I think I will wait till May and see what happens...I WAS leaning toward a Thunderbolt, but not so sure now. Sorry if this is off topic guys!! :)

My question is... and others have grazed on it... How usable will a dual core really be for a smartphone? I have a quad core PC... don't get me wrong, its fast. But I have to say for day to day functions, its really not much faster than a single or dual core. Multiple cores only really come into play when stressing the system with gaming or multitasking... which I am unlikely to do on a phone. I'm just wondering how much snappier the Bionic will be over the TB.. for the average Joe...

I was wondering the same.... I was under the impression that the two cores would basically run at different clock speeds. That way when you weren't using it for anything intensive it runs on the slower speed to conserve battery.

UNC yes according to Nvidia the processor clocks itself up and down accordingly.

Thank you CK. I thought I remembered reading that somewhere.

HTC needs this bad, their phones are beyond TERRIBLE when it comes to battery life.

Multitasking is kinda always taking place with Android haha. Plus its just nicer to have more power when you need it haha

Even though the software might not take advantage of the second core, the tegra 2 is based on the A9 processor series, which is why I am excited about it more then anything (Guess we'll see, but I think even a single core of this processor would have a significant advantage over the Snap2). And since even with the second core this bad boy is supposed to use less power then the A8 based designs, we have a winner as far as I'm concerned.

Thanks. I've spent a lot of time researching and comparing these two phones. So to be clear, what you are saying is that 512MB of DDR2 is like having 1GB of regular? I'm not quite sure how that works.

DDR or Double Data Rate means that the phone can write to/read from the RAM twice as fast (It can read/write on both rising and falling edge of the clock).

This does not mean it can be considered twice as large, the number of programs etc you can have running in RAM is based on the size (AKA 512 MB).

So in situations where you need a lot of programs etc, the Thunderbolt will have the advantage (there is more space for the programs etc). When you are loading new programs etc. into RAM then the Bionic will have the advantage. Of course this is highly simplified, just an example.

Some of the Thunderbolts size advantage can be accounted for because the Bionic can write/read so quickly.

I'm guessing the DDR2 will be more of an advantage in android because it is designed to have a small memory footprint to begin with, but I guess we will see (the programs are small unlike in wondows). Again we will see when the benchmarks come out...

I'm far more excited about the Bionic, and will NOT be buying a new phone unless it is based on the A9 architecture (or code set in the case of the snapdragons), or of course if the snapdragon 2 is proven to be a much badder beast then I am expecting.

DLNA??? WITH 4g and slingbox

My girlfriend works for verizon and loves the thunderbolt. It's very similar to the desire hd phone on AT&T. I asked her, so how about that HDMI out.. and it has DLNA instead. So I thought well that sucks, but then I heard about the HTC Media Link DLNA Adapter. Now I wonder how this works. I can't find any 3g info just wifi. I bet 4g could keep up with the streaming. What do you guys think?

How does the Thunderbolt compare to the Bionic? Isn't the Bionic supposed to be super fast because of the dual core processor? I'm not saying it doesn't compare, I don't know anything about phone processors and stuff like that, I'm just asking is the Thunderbolt gonna be close in speed to the Bionic? If so then I would go for the T-Bolt

Been looking for tbolt news and found some interesting stuff posted in another forum.

First a few tweets from blackmanx

@black_man_x What about Bolt vs LG phone? Also, is tbolt one you were railing on for crappy battery life? Will it last all day?

@htowngator that wasn't the bolt with the battery life issue. I choose not to share which it was as the power managment hasn't been done

@black_man_x What about build quality tho? Tbolt doesn't have gorilla glass or quality of moto. How about battery life?

@htowngator moto is gonna win in build quality but htc has stepped up on the bolt. Battery will be better on bionic if they get it dialed in

@black_man_x You think dual-core that important? really torn over LG vs Bionic vs Tbolt LTE phone.

@htowngator I don't think dual core matters.. moto told everyone its locked it down so u can't hack it anyway. Bolt is much cleaner feeling

@black_man_x @ryjb So the Thunderbolt has better battery life than the Bionic even though it has a much smaller battery?

@RichardRClark @ryjb at this time moto hasn't fully fleshed out the power management.

@black_man_x When the time comes and both are available Bionic or Thunderbolt?

@ryjb more then likely bolt. I will keep my bionic but I need better battery life

Also, for those wondering about the upcoming Incredible 2

@black_man_x Heard a rumor about a DInc 2. Is that the TBolt or new device all together? 2 upgrades burning holes...

@benkorver the Droid incredible 2 will be non lte. I haven't seen it myself so reserving judgement till I get hands on

Next is about the tbolt release date. Tbolt2011 said he heard from all the Verizon employees at his store that it would be released on Feb. 11th. There is a thread over at Android Central that's got a lot of info pointing to that being true or close to it. To sum it up, there are three dates that are prevalent, Feb. 10th, 11th, or 14th. The supposed reason for coming out at the same time as the iphone is that they want to see how the two stack up to each other. Here's the link to the thread if you're interested.

[Unconfirmed] Thunderbolt in early February - Android Forums

So what I take from that the bolt feels better has better battery life and isn't locked down as much am I missing anything
