Droid 3 update file

I downloaded it and have been contemplating it, but I think i've come to the conclusion that i'm going to wait for the "official" ota.

Agree, this is the test version of the update. It could be good, but then it could also introduce other problems or exacerbate existing ones. You almost certainly couldn't take your phone back to Verizon with this update on it.

Same here. All ready to go, but wondering why it's not released yet. I'll probably wait.

Sorry for the noob question but I can't seem to find this in a search. What is the key combination to boot into recovery of the D3? Thanks in advance!

From a powered off state, power+X

Hold x while powering on to boot into recovery. I applied the update last night and so far it seems to be much better on the battery. Dropped 20% in 12 hours overnight when usually it would be dead.

My d3 is rooted, does this update block root?

Also is there a way to backup my d3 100% as it is now and then try the update?

You will lose root, but you can re-root afterwards. There is no way to backup at this time though.

the root still works. i was daring and did not even unroot before i applied the update. all went smooth, and re-root went easy as could be. i also *228 - 2'd today and updated that as well. phone is fully operation, and after making sure it was fully charged i did a reboot so that i can get a feel for battery life after all the changes.

Another issue I didn't think to mention and confirmed over at Moto is that you are not likely to get the final update if you apply this one

Seriously doubt that. Since a few have received this OTA, that's Motorola saying soak test participants are screwed. At the absolute worst you will have to install the "official" update exactly like you install this one. Which for most, that might be a good thing as many have rooted and uninstalled/renamed/frozen a lot of the bloat....which seems to cause a few issues for some that did the update without restoring/defrosting the bloatware.

This is a leaked update unlike some of the leaked .sbf versions that have caused issues on other phones when the official update was released.

Though at worst...download and install via recovery manually.

I unfroze all bloat and installed with root and everything went through just fine. I rerooted after I updated

That wasn't my opinion, it came from a Moto forum manager. I'd bet those with test phones are treated different from us "regular" folks.

You are likely correct that the update will be available elsewhere soon after it's released, though he treated that like a less than likely possibility. We all know that everyone and their brother will be trying to get it off their phone before they apply it. Still, side loading it isn't what I intended when I said you would likely not get it. I was referring to the deployment.
