I ordered the Droid 2 from VerizonWireless off their site received the phone and noticed that when I go to the lock screen I get messages like this:

photo | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

They are pretty random and sometimes even threatening.

Examples: "you have stolen this phone and it must be returned. You have been reported to Verizon and if not returned we will find you...because there's an app for that."

"captain"

"This phone is owned by "random name" call "number" to return immediately.

(I have called a couple of these and they are legit with the name and number)

Currently it is displaying "This phone belongs to Inah Me (phone number) if lost please call (phone number)

I called tech support and they said that in 30 years of support they've never seen anything like it.

We reset the phone back to stock default uninstalling everything on the phone.

However, when I re-synced, and all the applications and accounts came back online so did the random texts.

I believe some application is doing this that I have installed but which one and why?!

IDEAS?! It's creepy, wacky, and cool.

Maybe I have glitched the matrix and have access to random people's screen displays from around the world!

BTW the phone numbers are from all different parts of the country if you were wondering.

But seriously...HELP!

List your apps, widgets, wallpapers, whatever.

Reboot in safe mode and see if it still does it. It won't because it is almost certainly some app you installed.

you could have just listed the apps you downloaded..not ALL the apps on your phone but ok lol.

I would uninstall the Bolded ones unless they are system apps and not downloaded apps, the bold underlined one i have no idea what it is but if its an app from the market you should prob uninstall it.

Yes I know but something malicious could have been there and I wouldn't even know it. Better safe than sorry.

besides...I assume it would have been asked from me eventually

what menu key are you speaking of?

EDIT: oh you want to boot into safe mode, they have removed the menu key from the hardware keyboard on the D2 so i would try holding power and OK or power and Alt or power and the back arrow to see if they do anything. You should see safe mode written on the lower left of the screen if you boot into safe mode.

Uninstalled all of them except for CoolDown because it looked like a system requirement.

Still nadda.

i dunno what to tell you, you might have entered your number online somewhere and maybe your number was sold off to a spamming company? I would just do a factory reset, dont install any apps for like 2 days and see if they stop, if not then its time to change numbers.

CoolDown looked like a system requirement? What do you mean? Is it in the market as one of your downloads or not?

Oh, and I have NO CLUE how to put a Droid 2 into safe mode.

Found the issue!

It was in fact the antivirus program.

I checked out some reviews from other Droid 2 users about the program and they all experienced the exact same problems.

Apparently it collects your personal information and distributes it on the screens "randomly" of other users who have installed the software.

Soooo...do I really need an antivirus program for my Droid? If so...any suggestions?

Apparently the goal of that program was to drain the battery very quickly and take personal information.

Been uninstalled most of the afternoon and still no freaky messages. Thank the Gods!
