Going from the 2 to the x, using mybackup, can I just do a restore of my apps?

You don't need mybackup. Use astro. It has a backup of apps for free.

Backup your apps then transfer your data card to the X. Install Astro and restore

Upgraded from droid to the x, my paid apps are on my x and work just fine. Open market hit menu then downloads for a list of apps. Its not all inclusive but gets most of the paid ones.
