droid 2 screen issues

I have a droid 2 and have had it for about two years. today when i was reaching to grab it and check my texts as i so often do, the screen would not come on. the buttons on the keyboard and soft buttons on the bottom of the screen turn on, but the screen will not power on. I have tried to take the battery out and put it back in to restart it. the back light to the screen will come on and thats it. the sounds also still work, but the screen remains blank and black.

Does anyone have an suggestions to help me fix this?

My Droid x2 from the day I've gotten it (4-20) has done that when I go to unlock it will just show the backlight is on but no unlock screen, and I can unlock it. Usually turning screen off and turning it back on fixes the issue.
