Droid 2 Global Unlock & foreign SIM?

Works fine in Malaysia on Maxis Mobile, I guess I got it unlocked as I just popped in the gsm simcard and it worked. Popped in the APN details and got on HSDPA instantly. No limitations as far as I can tell.

The only annoying thing is every time you lose coverage it offers to switch to Global mode, and will do so every time.

Did you unlock by code, or by cable/unlocking dongle? What is your phone - white or blue?

Blue, and like I said, I didn't unlock it, I bought it unlocked.

It should've been unlocked via code while still within VZN's network.

There is now confirmed successful use of TurboSIM to bypass the sim lock on D2g. An user from Ukraine reported success @XDA forums. Calling, sms and data (so far 2G only) is working ok.

can't connect to GSM networks in Europe, D2G unlocked

Greetings to everybody!

I am a bit new to the forum, and have a question about D2G.
Mine was purchased in States, unlocked, worked fine in States, but when I came to Europe and later Russia - it's just does not connect to GSM networks.. Tried with various sim-cards from different operators - can't find a network to connect and keeps suggesting to turn on the Global mode.

Also tried sbf'ing to 2.29, Fission rom, rooting/unrooting, factory reset in various combinations - nothing helps :(

Could anyone suggest what else to look at?.. Thanks in advance!

Michael

I got a US D2G sent to me in Australia and it was locked. Searched around for a bit then finally went to this site:
Unlocking codes, unlock Your New Motorola Droid 2 Global - sim-unlock.net - Automatic system for sales unlock codes - free Your phone
It looked fake but I ordered the $5 Euro "All other" code with Paypal (like $6), and after about 1/2hr got an email back with a code that unlocked the SIM.
You might need a browser than can translate Polish though but this definitely worked for me. My data doesn't, but that's a different problem.

connecting to GSM with D2G

In case you never got an answer, you need either to go to "Global Mode" or to the "GSM/UTMS" mode, under the phone configuration menu. Normally the phone is in CDMA mode, which is what Verizon provides. Global mode allows the phone to switch back and forth "automatically". If you aren't using a Verizon sim internationally, I suggest you put the phone in GSM/UTMS mode, and not allow it to chose.

My husband used a British SIM recently in India and was very satisfied.

I found I only got the unlock dialog box come up with certain SIMs. I tried a couple until the box came up, so borrow other people's SIMs from different carriers until it appears.
And pjrech - an easy way to unlock the phone is go to sim-unlock.net, spend $4 and request an unlock code.
