Splicing the usb cable like that is not recommended... It's been known to take out batteries and phones... Because the phone regulates the power... And bypassing it... Can cause damage so it probably busy took out your battery

if your lucky it only fried your battery and not the phone
you need a charged battery
safest way is a spare battery charger or another phone

No worries...I have excellent spam rejection, and I also have a BIG frying pan to cook it in...
My contact data is posted all over the net, and on dozens of professional sites, so one more does not bother me, but thanks for the warning, many do not use good anti-spam filtering, so they are deluged with garbage,
but being the multi-million 'XX' winner of several Nigerian lotteries, I don't care any more. :)
