Do you have insurance...

Do you have insurance either from Asurion (vzw) or a third party to cover damage to your phone? If not why?

I have insurance, but I've had it for every cell phone I've had (even the cheaper ones). Never needed it (so far). It's good for peace of mind, though.

Yes i Do! and because of this

i have it because of this -

yeah i do.... no damage to the droid yet but i have had several blackberries replaced most for warranty **** but a few damage claims.

I got the third party insurance threw Best Buy. Its a little more expensive and I've heard they exhaust every option before giving in and handing over a new one, but they don't care if you are rooted when you bring it in broken. I never have to worry about a thing. I actually live in a really rural area and blew the geek squads mind when I showed them how fast mine was compared to theirs. Then I got the computer department all excited when I started using wifi tether to use there display laptops to log into Droid Forums.

The biggest problem with the Best Buy insurance versus the Asurion provided by VZW, is Asurion will replace your device for lost, stolen, physical OR water damage. The Best Buy insurance does not cover water damage. That's a big one for me, because on a personal basis I had to use insurance once when I got a phone wet.

I have had to replace my droid twice now with assurion.

First time, cracked the screen, called them they sent me a new one, got it in and it was a refurb. no big deal it worked and looked great, shortly found out the head phone jack wasn't working correctly. called them and they sent another replacement. this time, they sent me a brand spanking new one in a sealed factory box. so now I have 2 16GB SD cards, three total batteries and three total chargers (when you send the phone back, you can not send batteries or accessories). How awesome is that?

I just got the extended warranty so that I can get defective issues fixed/resolved at a VZW stoire instead of having to send it in to Motorola.

I thought of getting the Asurion insurance, but at $6/ month and coupled with the $89 deductible, that's a $144 to $200+ paid by the time I may need to actually use it...

Did you have to pay the $89 both times?

I have never had insurance and I saved enough to buy several phones throughout the years due to the savings... :)
