Distortion from rear speaker. Froyo (latest)

I came from a Droid 2. Loved playing music (pandora, iheartradio, etc) on it via the speaker. Never a fan of headphones. But with the Droid X. It's loud enough. But it distorts easy. Distortion isn't much. I just don't want to damage the speaker. I never had this issue with my Droid 2. I know the X has a smaller speaker opening. But is there a fix other than reducing the volume? FYI I keep volume average at the "m" or "e" sometimes a click higher than the "e" letter of the word volume.
