Defaul email application or domain specific application?

I'm curious what are the pros and cons of using the default email application preinstalled on the phone fresh out of the box over downloading a domain specific (Yahoo mail application for example) and vice versa?

I have not been able to get my GMX account running smooth in the native app. I downloaded the GMX app from the play store and it has been great. Lot's of incrrased functionality.
