D3 rooted?!

A user starts posting to XDA the same evening that he (presumably a he) also posts that he's rooted a D3--but never touched one.

And all the sudden people are willing to throw money at him and his stats are headed up.

Thats sad.

For those of you blinded by your desire for root, NO DROID 3 HAS BEEN ROOTED. He said himself that he hasn't touched one. He has no explanation for why he said he rooted a D3 without having touched one.

Once again, be patient.

Seems legitimate to me, the method is sound but I have no device to try it on.

I'm not saying it isn't legit, but I am saying we have no proof. I see lots of folks saying "its legit" but seen none that say they rooted their phone using it.

If this came from a known and respected tech then I'd be less concerned, but the manner of announcement makes my inner security tech highly concerned.

Patience is best.

Edit: Also, I agree that the approach seems sound.

I have seen those who confirm the vulnerability, but I agree one would want to personally verify before throwing around donations.

Since my original call for caution, it seems there has been some level of verification of the original claim:

thanks so much for this
i can confirm this is working, and i've copied the
su binary across to /system/bin
installing superuser.apk
now

edit:

you have no idea how happy that little popup requesting su permissions just made me

Still, I'd say patience is best since its still very early.

According to p3droid this method works on all Motorola devices running gingerbread .... verified
