plug in ur droid to ur pc then u should see a folder called notifications in the media folder. media/audio/notifications once u've opend the folder u can drop ur music files in there and the select them as a custom ring tone on ur phone under the sms options menu

When I mount my droid to my PC I get a main folder but I don't see a folder called media..

I simply created a folder called ringtones in the root of the SD card and it worked for ringtones. I think creating one called notifications in the root works for notifications as well.
