CPU Governors

So I really don't know much about the different governors in apps like setcpu. I would like to know what's the best one for performance and battery life. Between on demand and startass which one saves more battery while still giving good performance while I'm using the phone.

I wouldnt know...heard good things about running smartass on the 1.8 Ghz overclocked kernel though.

Smartass is probably the best for performance and battery. It ramps up your phone's CPU frequency when the CPU load is above 60% and ramps the CPU frequency down when your phone is below 30%.

I think it depends on the dev for the kernel. Some devs set the default to ondemand not smartass. Check with the thread to that kernel to get your answers.
