Costco / VZW question

I currently have 4 lines on my account. 3 of them are grandfathered unlimited. 3 of them are eligible for upgrades. The 4th line is not under any obligation.

I spoke with a Costco rep today regarding the S5 and the buy one get one free thing. He told me he knows how to work the system whereas I would get 2 phones and still be able to retain my unlimited data plan on all 3 lines while signing up the spare line for a New Every Two.

Is he really going to be able to do this or is he yankin my chain?

both phones have to be actived on a 2yr contract on the same account. i did that with the BOGO M8 deal.

The only thing that I can think is that he would upgrade the line that doesn't have unlimited data and then swith it to one of the unlimited lines. They only way that I can think of for the bogo to work would then be to add another line (the new every 2 that you mentioned) and then switch that one to one of the other unlimited lines.

I kept mine through a sharp Costco rep.

Ditto, upgraded two phones to S5. Kept Unlimited. Didn't go with the Bogo deal. Unlimited data is worth more than saving a few bucks. Costco was cheaper than other places.
So to be clear, did you pay retail? Or were you able to get upgrade prices and keep unlimited? My hubby and I are saving up to pay retail because we use a ton of data each month.

I'm about 99% sure that the only phones costco sells at full retail are T mobile.... Tried buying the moto x around Xmas and was told the T mobile thing

Three phones on the account. One is a dumb phone. Used this to round robin the smart phones. Maintained Unlimited on two smart phones. Paid upgrade price. Did not pay full retail. Have you considered getting a dumb phone for this reason? Buy a cheap dumb phone from Craigslist. This leaves an upgrade available on the account at all times in case of emergency.

Thanks Matt.

Jeep: That's a clever idea a about the dumb phone. I'll keep that in mind. Never hurts to have something as a backup. Haven't had a land line since 2003. Are you on Verizon?

I have always had a dumb phone, just in case something happened to my smartphone. Bought a new Samsung Hero GT-E1200T. Can't beat it for $10. bucks.

So with the "dumb" phone didn't you have to sign up for a data plan? I'd assume you'd need one to active the new smart phone under the new contract...then once activated, did u switch the new phone to the unlimited line and downgrade back to the dumb phone plan or does the dumb phone line still have a contract under a smart phone data plan? Just curious on how it was done...does this make sense?

The dumb phone has a temp data plan that's immediately canceled. If you wanted to for a few bucks extra, one could use the dumb phone as a GPS locate for an expensive car. This would require the phone to be plugged in. Preferably hidden in the trunk or glove box. The phone could drain the car battery if the car wasn't driven occasionally. Our dumb phone usually goes one week on a single charge, always on.
