contact problem with letters after phone numbers

Hi guys, hope you can help me. In most of my contacts I have a descrptive note after the phone ( usa , nextel, private, 2nd office etc,) and my droid 854 dial it as if they were numbers, but in my contact list they appear perfect, what can I do. To make my droid recognize the as letters and also how can I put pauses and NIPs to dial the banks, I use this a lot in other phones.

should be a comma (pause) and the a # sign. If that doesn't work use comma and *. To have it recognize it as letters you would assign the appropriate numeric key that's on a dialer.

Thank's hook, that definitely worked as a pause BUT it still dials the letters after the numbers, but at least with the ,+# or * dials the number as it is , before this it dialed 20 numbers directly.
Can Someone tell how to make the phone recognize the letters after a phone number in a contact?
