Combining themes

I'm definitely a novice at theming. What I want to do is take certain things from different themes that I like and combine them into one theme. I was thinking the UD theme and the liberty theme combined; with the battery icon instead of being red being yellow. If there's a tutorial or something someone could point me towards to help me out it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
