Clockwork Mod/Bootstrapper backup/restore question

So I recently had my Droid X replaced, and now I'm left to re-install and set up everything to how it was. Iv'e already re-rooted and installed Bootstrapper.

My question is, can I copy an old Boostrapper backup file from my computer onto my phone and run it through Bootstrapper?

Or would it not work because it wasn't from this particular phone?

Also, if I can just copy the backup file, do I need to install the apps I had installed during that backup?

I found out from another thread that when restoring backups from different phones, you have to first change the serial number in one of the data files, to match your current phone's serial number
