Clearing data for mail

So yesterday when I was on the phone with the Verizon tech, she had me delete all of my email accounts since it was one of my biggest hogs of space contributing to my low message (which in turn made me miss update 2). But the amount of space it uses didn't change and I don't have the option to clear files - the button is grayed out. Anybody else experience this or know how to get rid of those files?

I thinks it's ridiculous everything I've had to do just to get my phone to work right...

I even deleted the POP acct I had, so now I have no email at all on my phone, but still taking up 80+MB WTH?

I see it too. I think it is a Gingerbread problem. I never had it before.
