Chat on Facebook App

So I all of a sudden one day started receiving fb chat messages through my Facebook app (Im pretty sure its the main one thats is out there.) Does anyone know if there is a way of turning off the chat function on my phone because it is killing my battery? Thanks!

I don't see an option to disable it. The only thing I use the stock Facebook app for is to see my Feed, since it's the easiest app to do it so far. I have notifications disabled on it since I use F+ for those (Which is the bestest thing since sliced bread, BTW) and eBuddy for all my instant messaging needs.

Ur prolly online. When u go to the chat and ur friends list pops up hit the menu key on ur phone and it will have an option to go offline that should fix it.
