Changing Soft Keyboard Issue?

I wanted to change my keyboard from swype to swiftkey. to do what is usually such a simple task actually took a lot of work. if I go into language and keyboard and uncheck swype and all other active keyboards and activate swiftkey. Then as soon as you back out of that screen the changes I just made disappear. I had to go into titanium backup and freeze all the keyboards that i wasn't using.

Did you try long pressing the input box when you're typing and selecting an input method?

yes I did and it wasn't there. selecting the input method only brings up the selected keyboards in language and keyboard which doesn't save when you back out of it.
