Can't get rid of the O_O icon in alert bar. Help!

This alert popped up on my alert bar with an icon that looks like this: O_O. This the FIRST time in the 8 months I've owned this phone that I've even seen this icon/alert.

When clicked it says "New Voicemail (2) dial *86". I never set up VM with Verizon because I have used Google Voice for VM service since day one. I dial the *86 and there are no new messages to clear in my google VM. Verizon Tech says to do a factory reset is the only way to clear it.

Any ideas?

I use Google Voice and it has always said I have one VM. I can't get rid of it, but it has never been in my status bar though.
