Can't e-mail with Earthlink

Just got our first Smartphone- Thunderbolt - we love the phone, but can't get our email through Earthlink.... spend 2 hours in the Verizon store - everyone trying to help - downloaded apps, but nothing works... Earthlink won't help us (of course).....

It goes back and forth - this morning I received "some" e-mails and then it "stopped".. I could reply to those e-mails.. it appears that Earthlink is "blocking" them one way or another; but when we called them, of course, they have no idea what we are talking about.

There has to be other Earthlink users out there that have smartphones/Androids.....???? The Verizon people are stumped, too
